Council looks to 2022, new members appointed | News, Sports, Jobs

Lehigh Acres Community Council will look into the coming year with plans to do more community outreach.

As part of the initiative, the council plans to hold a food truck rally on February 5 from noon to 7 p.m. The event will coincide with a garage sale at Faith Lutheran Church, 705 Leeland Heights Blvd. , Lehigh Acres.

According to Community Council Chairman Chuck Edwards, this will be Lehigh Acres’s first food truck gathering.

“We plan to have at least 10 food trucks in attendance, ranging from barbecue to Latin cuisine. We have confirmed that Coasting Donuts is coming and we will have a coffee truck next to them, and a Neapolitan pizza truck, Cuban and Mexican food, and maybe a unique pudding food truck concept, ” Edwards explained. “We are running this in conjunction with the church community garage sale, and hope that with good support we can do one at least six times a year.

Edwards added that this event will give residents a sample of the great cuisine found here locally.

“Residents have the chance to sample a variety of foods without having to travel to town to eat out. In addition, they have the possibility of supporting local businesses ”, Edwards said.

The community council is also planning to have a stand on site during the event where residents can learn about grassroots organization and complete their voter registration.

“We are trying to do more types of community service events within the community instead of just acting as a political body for Lehigh voices,” Edwards said.

The council held its annual election in December 2021. Edwards was re-elected for his fourth term as president and the rest of the chamber council retained their previous positions.

The council is asking community members to get involved with its membership drive this year.

“We are looking for new members who want to get involved in the community and welcome new ideas”, Edwards said.

Lehigh Acres Community Council was scheduled to hold its next monthly meeting on Monday, January 3. The meeting is open to the public and is being held behind the Lee County Sheriff’s Office located at 1301 Homestead Road, N, Lehigh Acres.
