Hisbah received 4,923 complaints in one year: Commissioner Bauchi

Aminu Balarabe –Isah, the Permanent Commissioner of Hisbah Department of Bauchi State, said 4,923 complaints were received in the past year.

Mr. Balarabe-Isah who spoke on Wednesday, in an interview with reporters, said that of the cases, 4,672 have been dealt with.

He said the cases were of various types and categories officially filed with the department by parties seeking out-of-court resolutions.

The commissioner said most cases were resolved through out-of-court settlements to avoid overburdening the courts and reducing his burden.

The department, he said, also recovered 1.8 million naira from defaulting individuals and groups, adding that it had been refunded to claimants during the reporting period.

The commissioner said that N389,650 and N265,750 of the amount were paid to pregnant and lactating divorced mothers for their maintenance, respectively.

Mr Balarabe-Isah added that some 904,000 naira recovered from the defaulters had been shared as inheritance with deserving heirs.

He praised the state government for providing the logistics for the department, which allowed it to run smoothly, saying “we would keep the momentum going.”

Mr. Balarabe-Isah, however, called for the creation of Hisbah’s board of directors, adding that “the creation of a board would further guarantee our independence and improve our performance.”
