RCMP say two women from Dieppe, New Brunswick died Saturday afternoon following a head-on collision on Highway 8 near Bartibog.
Members of the Neguac RCMP, Ambulance New Brunswick and the City of Miramichi Fire Department responded shortly after 1:30 p.m. to the collision between a car and a pickup truck.
According to Officer David Hamel, investigators believe the car, traveling south on Highway 8, crossed the center line and collided head-on with the northbound pickup truck.

The occupants of the car, a 72-year-old woman and a 55-year-old woman both from Dieppe, died at the scene from their injuries. The driver and sole occupant of the van was taken to hospital with what are believed to be “non-life threatening injuries”, Hamel said. The identity of the victims has not been revealed.
Route 8 was closed for about five hours on Saturday. Members of the Tracadie RCMP, the Chaleur Region RCMP and the Miramichi Police Force responded to the scene. Members of the New Brunswick Department of Transportation and Infrastructure and the New Brunswick Department of Justice and Public Safety also assisted.
Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fatal crash
An RCMP collision reconstructionist and a member of the New Brunswick Coroner’s Office are assisting in the police investigation. An autopsy is scheduled to determine the exact cause of death for both individuals.
The cause of the collision is still under investigation, Constable Hamel said.
It is not known whether the weather conditions could have been a factor in the accident. We will post more information as it becomes available.
